Grants Awarded at the July Meeting

The City of Danbury Cultural Commission met on July 25th and approved grants supporting The William Knight Foundation and The Danbury Brass Band. 

The William Knight Foundation provides provides a scholarship to 25 to 30 Danbury children to attend the Ridgefield Boys and Girls Club summer computer and language program. Scholarships are provided for participation in the Camp in Carmel, NY and field trips from the Camp. A Camp Wiffleball team will also be sponsored, to play in the tournament. 

The Danbury Brass Band will once again, this year, present a pre-Halloween concert featuring scary music from “Electra”. The venue will be the Marian Anderson Hall 256 Main Street Danbury, Connecticut, rather than the Tarrywile mansion.

The Danbury Cultural Commission was formed by the City Charter in 1967. The 11 members continue to encourage within the City of Danbury, participation in, and promotion, development, acceptance and appreciation of, artistic and cultural activities which include, but are not limited to music, theatre, dance, painting, sculpture, architecture, literature, films and allied arts and crafts, and to this end may join with private patrons and with institutions and professional organizations. The Commission office hours are Monday, and Wednesday 8:00 to 11:00 A.M. and by appointment, and meets each fourth Monday in their Main Street office.
